“This is…stunning,” I breathed, running my fingers across the delicate lines and writing. “You made this?”
 
“Yes.” Zayn smiled. “With some help. Lamswyth helped Endow it with a special class of magic. Your mother provided me with the Hebrew translations, and Korinne was able to track down the lunar and planetary phases for your birthday and mine, in both realms.”
 
“Oh my God,” I whispered, pressing my hand to my open mouth. “That’s my name written in Hebrew!”
 
“Yes – and that’s mine in Elvish,” he said, pointing to the writing in the lower left corner of the triangle. “This is the banshee word for ‘heart’”—he tapped the symbol just underneath the sign of Saturn, the planet associated with my birthday—“and that character right there is how harpies write ‘eternal.’” His finger moved across the design. “This script in the lower right quadrant is Infernal for ‘soul’ – that’s the ancient language of incubi,” he added, noting my momentary confusion.
 
I stared at him, completely and utterly speechless.
 
Zayn cleared his throat nervously. “Unlike traditional claims, this rune doesn’t exert any sort of force or control over its bearer. And it only works properly when it’s part of a pair; by attuning itself to the life force of its companion, it pulses in time with their heartbeat…” The Adam’s apple in his throat bobbed. “I was thinking we could use this to claim each other, so to speak."
