Rener’s story picks up right where the first book left off – with magic, suspense, and romance tied into a beautiful cast of characters and constantly unfolding mystery and suspense. It’s an impossible to put down page turner that will take you into another world – one of magic, family, friends and self discovery. I cannot WAIT to read the third and continue on this incredible adventure. I slowed down as I reached the end because I was so sad that it was soon going to be over. Truly, my highest recommendation!!

It was (somehow) more amazing than the first and it kept me on the edge if my seat from every word of the beginning until the end. I cannot wait to read book three and see what becomes of Aspen/Rowan and her family and friends! This book was a hands down definite read and was amazingly captured and detailed fron beginning to end. I hope Rachel Rener continues to write because she truly has a unique gift and and definite talent. I cannot wait to read book three and am so excited!!!

Now I’m deeply disappointed as I’ve finished this book in 24 hours and have to wait for book 3. Nikki G.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I haven’t loved a book this much in a very long time. If you enjoy fantasy or magical realism, I cannot recommend this book enough. The character development is amazing, the pace is nonstop (seriously, I didn’t get bored even once), and the suspense and plot twists are shocking, though they don’t feel at all contrived. It was a brilliantly-crafted plot. And the magical system felt SO REAL. The romantic elements, while not the book’s main priority, were steamy and well-done without being cloying. This is by far my favorite book of 2018. I loved it immensely.

Darcy S.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is one heck of a ride. The story is chock-full of action, mystery, drama, and suspense. It pulls you in and keeps you glued to the pages. It is a story that is so engaging and heart felt at the same time. Rowan goes through so much throughout this story. You can feel her pain, sorrow, happiness, anger and love as the story progresses. She grows so much throughout the story and it has you continuously root for her and her group of characters. It is addicting! Yes, it does end in a cliffhanger but my goodness it is so worth reading. I absolutely can not wait for the next book. This will have laughing and crying at once. We learn so much about Aiden and his family. We learn love and forgiveness in this story. I just can’t say enough how good of a read this is.

I know a series has hooked me when I find myself saying “just one more chapter and I’ll turn out the light!” which is exactly what happened with both the first and second books. I’m so glad there is at least one more yet to come. I’d say my favorite part about them is that it’s obvious how much thought went into how and what it means to wield the different elements. They almost make you question if something like this could be true and you are just one of the unlucky powerless souls out there living in ignorant bliss…

The story line pulls the reader in without undue emphasis on violence or overt sexuality. The danger faced by the heroine is real – as are her emotions – but we are spared the graphic details which makes this book accessible to older youth as well as adults. It is clear that the author is well-researched and creative. I’m looking forward to Rener’s next release.

Another page turner that is impossible to put down. Rachel, because of her writing skill, makes paranormal adventure seem so realistic. This is the sign of a true talent. You fall in love with the main characters and cheer them on through all the hardships and danger they face. I am consistently in awe of all the scientific knowledge the author shows that makes all of the events seem so believable. The adventures are unique and exciting, so full of suspense and thrills that I often found myself holding my breath until I could get them through dangerous situations. There is just enough romance to tease you into wanting more. I cannot wait for the next book. So enjoyable and fun.

The author has brought to life these two characters with her eloquent writing style. Jam packed with pulse-racing action – this book doesn’t disappoint! Can’t wait for the third book! What comes next for Aspen and Aiden in “The Beginning,” will be a nail-biter for sure!

Marco R.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It is easy to disregard 5-star reviews as biased, yet it strikes me as the only fair score for this book. Not only is there a wonderful continuity between the two books in terms of the characters’ mental journey, the author also manages to introduce the people, setting and situation in a very pleasant way for those who continue reading after volume one as well as any readers new to the series who did not read the first book. The book is once again a more or less self-contained story for those who would like to read it as such. The story starts out at a point that many less-gifted writers would turn into either a boring enumeration of facts or take to a way-too-hasty conclusion, making the reader lose touch with the main character. Ms. Rener manages to make the story flow beautifully and naturally, though. The element of superpowers is elaborated upon and interesting new ideas are explored – and the backgrounds of the main characters are also shown in more detail. We get to know the characters and what makes them tick, so we can sympathize. It is hard to say much about this book without spoiling any of it for the reader. I can only add that the writing style is, in my opinion, fast-paced and only offering just the right amount of detail in its descriptions to help you create a proper mental image, without dictating the details for your mind’s eye. This book takes us on an adventure in the world we all know, yet we know nothing about.

Stephane T.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lots of action and plot development in this sequel! The anticipation for book 3 is already gnawing at me. Aspen starts out with continuing her journey to learn more of the past she cannot recall, and meets an old/new adversary/friend along the way. Aiden (swoon) and the others continue their plan to rescue his sister but with complications. I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel and do not feel like it id the common “filler text” that a second book often has. There are heists, daring escapes, secrets from the past, romance (I could stand a little more of that though!), and powers that we didn’t even know of behind the scenes in this book. I will be eagerly awaiting Book 3!
